Can Stage 3 Chronic Kidney Disease Be Reversed
According to the level of glomerular filtration rate (GFR), Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) can be divided into five stages. Stage 5 CKD is the most severe stage, and we usually call it End Stage Renal Disease (ESRD). In many countries, there are no other treatments for patients with stage 5 CKD, the only choice is dialysis or a kidney transplant. Here we will talk about stage 3 CKD, can it still be reversed?
At the early stage of CKD, like stage 1 and stage 2, the condition is not severe. In general, patients with stage 1 or stage 2 CKD can be cured and they can live a normal life as others do. However, different people have different conditions, nothing is absolute. We just want to tell patients that you have the great possibility to be cured at the stage 1 or stage 2 CKD. If the condition develops into stage 4 CKD, much kidney function has been lost. So it will be hardly possible to reverse the condition, let alone stage 5 CKD. When the condition develops into CKD 5, only less than 15 of GFR is left.
Stage 3 CKD is a critical period. It is more severe than stage 1 and stage 2 CKD, but less severe than stage 4 and stage 5 CKD. If patients with stage 3 CKD can take the efficient treatments in time, then the condition has the possibility to be reversed. And this possibility is decided by how much kidney function is left. So, it is difficult to tell exactly whether stage 3 CKD can be reversed or not.
We do hope patients with stage 3 CKD could avoid the condition worsening, and they can avoid dialysis or a kidney transplant. After all having our own healthy kidneys is such a nice thing. There are some other treatments on our Kidney Support, remember that the one which aims at improving kidney function is the one you should choose. Tell us how much kidney function is left?
