Creatinine 2.9 with Kidney Function 17%: Which Stage Am I IN2016-11-30 16:35
I am a kidney disease patient, the recent test shown that my creatinine level up to 2.9, and my kidney function left 17%. I want to know which stage i am in.
In general, for kidney disease patient with creatinine level 2.9 they are in stage 3 kidney disease, but for people with kidney function 17% they are in stage 4, near to stage 5 kidney disease. For your case, you should make diagnosis according to the kidney function, that is to say you are in stage 4 now.
Why you need to make diagnosis according to the kidney function rather than creatinine?
Actually, both creatinine level and kidney function are the indicators of kidney disease, but the kidney function is more accurate. That is because the creatinine level can be affected by many factors, in addition, it will not goes up only after the kidney function declined to half of level. So in this case, we can say that the disease now is in stage 4, near to stage 5 kidney disease.
Why kidney function is more accurate than creatinine level?
That is because kidney function reflect the kidneys’ condition directly, in general, how many kidney functions left means how many kidneys can work normally. But creatinine level can not reflect the kidneys’ condition directly, as we mentioned above, it will not decline only after half of the kidneys damaged, what’s more, there are many factors may affect the levels of creatinine.
So compared with creatinine, kidney function is more sensitive in reflecting kidney’ condition.
