Lab Tests and Diagnosis for Kidney Cysts
Lab tests or exams should be done if the patients with Kidney Cysts are suspected. Basic and further lab tests will be done generally.
Basic lab tests
A small number of red blood cells and white blood cells in urine form when cysts suppress renal parenchyma or sac infections develop. Under such circumstances, urinalysis may present normal but problems do exist.
B Ultrasound could help realize the size, numbers, and its conditions of Kidney Cysts, which help differentiate from renal mass. Typical B ultrasound presents echoless from lesions, smooth sac wall and clear borders. Irregular or limited echoes should be regarded as indicator of malignant pathological changes.
Low echoes from lesions as secondary infections develop. The echoes become strengthened as bleeding occurs inside the cysts. When the B ultrasound indicates several cysts exist, the disease should be told from multilocular cyst and PKD.
IVP (intravenous pyelography) could help determine the degree of renal parenchymal oppression from cysts. The lab test result helps differentiate hydronephrosis.
Further lab tests
CT could be able to rule out the possibility of cystic bleeding, infections and malignant transformation which B ultrasound can’t. The value of CT increases, when infections, bleeding or malignant transformation occurs. No need to get cyst punctured as long as the cysts present as cystic characteristics.
Things need you to pay attention when diagnosis is performed.
No symptom presents initially, and often is disregarded for this reason. The Kidney Cysts would be found out when B ultrasound is taken. Normally, the diameter of Kidney Cysts exceeds 10 cm at that time.
Cystic mass can be touched when performing physical examination.
If B ultrasound fails to decide the disease, further diagnosis or lab tests are needed.
