Four Ways to Lower Creatinine

2012-12-20 08:42

Too much creatinine can be dangerous and might lead to Kidney Failure and other health problems, so lowering creatinine is something urgent.

Avoid eating foods rich in creatinine

This includes wild game, lean red meat, and fish such as herring, salmon and tuna. By limiting the amount of creatine you consume, you might be able to reduce the amount of creatine in your blood. Other protein sources you can eat instead include soy, chicken, beans and legumes.

Medicines

Taper the amount of creatine supplements you take until you are taking none. This should return your creatinine levels to normal. Creatinine is eliminated through the urine, so plan to drink as much water as possible.

Dialysis

Ask your doctor about dialysis if your blood creatinine levels are extremely high, and your kidneys are not able to properly excrete creatinine. Dialysis is not the typical treatment, but might be necessary in some cases to lower creatinine levels and filter out waste products. In general, patients will not produce urine when they have been on dialysis for more than six months, which means the kidney function has been totally lost. So kidney disease patients should not have dependency on dialysis.

Chinese herbal medicines

A high blood creatine or creatinine level can mean there is a problem with how well your kidneys are functioning and eliminating waste products. The kidney damage and poor kidney function result in the high creatinine. Then enhancing the kidney function becomes another way to lower creatinine. And this way has been used in Chinese clinical, more and more foreign patients with kidney disease begin to benefit from Chinese herbal medicines. Medicines which can promote blood circulation, remove blood stasis, anti-inflammation, anti-coagulation, degradation and provide nutrition for damaged kidneys will be used to repair the kidney damage. Though a little slow the treatment effect is, but it lowers creatinine from the root. After the kidney damage is repaired and kidney function is enhanced gradually, the creatinine level will keep declining. The condition can get stable after about one month, of course, different people have different results.
