What Are the Causes of Interstitial Nephritis

Interstitial Nephritis is second only to Glomerular Nephritis which is the most common kidney disease. According to the statistics, about 15% of acute renal failure and 25% of chronic renal failure is caused by Interstitial Nephritis, so it attracts widespread attention. However, many causes of Interstitial Nephritis increase the difficulty of the treatment.

Fundamentally, Interstitial Nephritis is one kind of kidney disorder diseases. The kidneys filter waste and extra fluid from the body. 1. Infections

One cause of Interstitial Nephritis is virus infection including escherichia coli, epidemic hemorrhagic fever virus, EB virus, corynebacterium diphtheriae, etc. These viruses mainly cause acute interstitial nephritis.

2. Allergic reaction to some drugs

Some drugs which tend to cause Interstitial Nephritis include penicillin, cephradineⅠ, NSAID , cimetidine, etc. Allergic reaction to drugs is the most common cause of Interstitial Nephritis. Therefore, people should have a skin test before using these drugs to prevent Interstitial Nephritis.

3. Autoimmune disorders

In some cases, Interstitial Nephritis is secondary to some kinds of autoimmune disorders. Systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE), glomerulaonephritis, kawasaki’s disease, sjogren syndrome, and so on all can contribute to the causes of Interstitial Nephritis.

4. Unnormal levels of some substances

Too little potassium or too much calcium in your blood both can be the causes of Interstitial Nephritis. This cause may be rare relatively, but we still can’t ignore its damage.
