What Is The Relationship between High Creatinine and Renal Failure

2012-10-08 09:08

What is the relationship between high creatinine and Renal Failure? Maybe many patients want to know whether they get Renal Failure when creatinine is high. Renal Failure means kidney function has lost partly or totally. Under normal cases, our kidneys can keep your blood clean through removing the excessive fluid, minerals and wastes and ensure the stability of inner environment of body.

But if the kidneys are damaged, these harmful substances will deposit in the blood and damage kidney inherent tissues and cells. In clinical, Renal Failure also known as CKD 5, at this stage, it means that patients' Glomerular Filtration Rate (GFR) is lower than 15ml/min and the damage of kidney function is very severe.

Creatinine is a chemical waste product produced in our body as a result of muscle metabolism. The breakdown of goods can also produce some creatinine, healthy kidneys keep the creatinine level in a normal range. Creatinine level will not increase until more than a half of kidney function has been lost.

If someone is diagnosed with Kidney Failure, it is common to see his creatinine level high. However, if someone’s creatinine level is high, he may not develop into Kidney Failure yet. His condition may be just in stage 2 or stage 3 of chronic kidney disease. If so, his illness condition is still reversible by effective and timely treatment, so dialysis or kidney transplant may be avoided and the patients can live a better life. Therefore, if you have a high creatinine level now, you need to take effective treatment as soon as possible to prevent your condition developing into Kidney Failure. As to those Renal Failure patients, only lowering the creatinine level through medicines, dialysis or healthy diets is not enough, improving the kidney function is the key.
